Our Board of Directors

Community Living Wallaceburg is governed by a dedicated Board of Directors, comprised of eleven volunteers from the community who possess unique backgrounds, skill sets and perspectives. Elected by the Membership at the Annual General Meeting, the Directors are entrusted with the Agency’s affairs and provide strategic direction for Community Living Wallaceburg. The Executive Director is appointed to the Board.

Ben Hazzard

President

Ben Hazzard is a Superintendent of Education for the Lambton Kent District School Board and has served on the Community Living Wallaceburg Board of Directors since 2015. He has volunteered in his community as a member of the Board of Directors for a residential addiction treatment centre, and the Race Director for the St. Clair River Run. After serving on several Agency Standing Committees, Ben was elected President in 2020.
Ed Freeburn

Vice President

Ed is retired as Vice Principal of Ursuline College after 32 years in education.  He served on the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Board for 2  years, and is presently a member of the Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame Committee, a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Wallaceburg Legion.  Ed is married to Michelle, and they have three beautiful daughters and three grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys curling, kayaking and golf. Ed joined the Community Living Wallaceburg Board of Directors in 2020.

Amy Mikhaila

Treasurer

Amy joined the Board of Directors of Community Living Wallaceburg in 2017. She holds a CPA, CA, is a graduate of the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University and has worked in management positions at Enbridge Gas Inc. and Ernst & Young LLP. Amy serves as Treasurer, and Chair of the Agency’s Resource Utilization and Audit Committee.

Kevin Cavanagh

Kevin joined the Community Living Wallaceburg Board of Directors in 2008, is past president of the Board and has served on the Resource Utilization and Audit Committee. Kevin owns and operates Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home.

Derek McGivern

Director

Derek has been a member of Community Living Wallaceburg’s Board of Directors since 2007. He served as the President of the board for three years from 2013 to 2016, and has represented the agency on the Resource Utilization and Audit Committee. Derek is a Business Development Consultant.

Ryan Allaer

Ryan Allaer

Director

Ryan joined the Community Living Wallaceburg Board in 2016.  With an industrial and agricultural background, he lives on his family farm near Wallaceburg and is a Project Manager for CMF Group Millwrights and Machinery Movers.  Ryan is actively involved in the local community having served on the Wallaceburg Minor Hockey Board as well as coaching various teams.  Ryan has served the Board on the Resource Utilization and Audit Committee, and sits on the Special Education Advisory Committee for the SCDSB.

Chris Taylor

Director

Chris is a self-advocate who grew up in Wallaceburg and is a graduate of the Options Program at St. Clair College. Chris works at 99.1 CKXS in Wallaceburg, and dedicates many volunteer hours at YourTV as a community producer, accepting assignments throughout Chatham-Kent. Chris is part of the coaching staff of the Chatham Maroons as video producer for the home games and as the trainer on the road and at practices as a certified level 1 hockey trainer. As well, Chris assists the Maroons with their website, photography and creating video content for social media. Chris has been on the CLW Board since 2014, and has served on the agency Resource Committee.

Marcia Altiman

Marcia Altiman works at Bkejwanong Biiweziimag Kinomaagziwaad, Ojibway for “Family Place of Learning”, and is a member of the Bkejwanong Nation, and an advocate for Bkejwanong adults with special needs for services on-reserve.  She is a co-organizer of Dben-Daag-Zid Special Needs Conference. Marcia has three children, two with special needs. Marcia joined the Board in 2018.

Carol Markham

Carol is a retired nurse with experience in intensive care and community nursing.  She was the Area Director for Bayshore Home Health and most recently a Case Manager at Community Care Access Centre.  Carol joined the CLW Board of Directors in 2019 and has served on the Resource Committee. She lives in Wallaceburg.

Ken O'Neil

Director

Ken is a Child and Youth Worker who owns and manages his own counselling and consulting business, and has developed working partnerships with Walpole Island First Nation community programs, Lambton-Kent District School Board, other First Nation communities in Ontario, and Children’s Aid Societies, to name a few.  In the past, Ken taught at Lambton College in the Child and Youth Worker Program for over 11 years. He has been involved with Wallaceburg Minor Lacrosse Association and is a proud father of three beautiful children and happily married for 25 years. Ken joined the Board in 2021, and has served on the Resource Committee.

Laura Sheehan is new to the community of Wallaceburg. She is currently pursuing her CPA, is a graduate of the Sprott School of Business at Carleton University and has worked in many different positions at Enbridge Gas Inc. and Kellogg’s Canada.

Roger Romses

Roger Romses

Secretary

Roger is the Executive Director for Community Living Wallaceburg.  Roger has worked in the Developmental Services sector for nearly 20 years starting as a Direct Support Professional after graduating from the University of Waterloo and moving through various leadership positions.  Roger has also volunteered as a coach and instructor in the Royal Canadian Army Cadet system and currently serves as a board member for the Chatham-Kent Girls Hockey Association.
