As Executive Director of Community Living Wallaceburg, David Katzman leads a multi-faceted agency that provides a wide range of supports and services to children, youth and adults with intellectual or related disabilities and their families.
Beginning his career in 1976 as a caseworker with the Peel Branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association and then with Big Brothers in St. Catharines, David has gone on to work with Community Living Associations in Chatham-Kent and St. Catharines, before assuming his current role with Community Living Wallaceburg in 1989.
With nearly four decades of experiences and insights in the Human Services Sector, David has made positive contributions to government policies and strategic initiatives in a number of areas, including employment support, positive behavioural change practices and service planning for persons who are deaf/blind.
Perhaps David’s proudest accomplishment thus far was his involvement in the movement to close Ontario’s remaining institutions for individuals with an intellectual disability, including the Southwest Regional Centre in 2009. The closures have resulted in a better quality of life for people, allowing many to reconnect with their families, while participating actively in their communities.
In addition to his duties at Community Living Wallaceburg, David is a Director, and currently Treasurer, on the Board of Chatham-Kent Children’s Services and a Director of the Chatham-Kent Workforce Development Board.
