Award History

 

Established by Community Living Wallaceburg in 2017, the Emer & Dale Dudley Distinguished Community Service Award celebrates inspiring individuals who, like Emer & Dale, have gone above and beyond the work endlessly to support and enable all people with intellectual disabilities to Dream, Believe, Overcome & Achieve.

 

Models of commitment, action and advocacy, Emer and Dale Dudley have invested their talents and skills, have made invaluable and lasting differences, and have inspired others through their outstanding contributions, to build a community that celebrates inclusion and inspires possibilities.

Who is eligible for this award?

Individuals that:

Have contributed to making their community more inclusive through words and actions, which have contributed to lasting changes in their communities.

Demonstrate leadership and commitment as a volunteer or as a professional in their chosen field.

Reside anywhere in the boarder Chatham-Kent community, and work in any field: business academia, with youth or with seniors, in health & social services, arts & culture, or sports.

Have provided strong and effective leadership and succeeded in improving the quality of life for people with intellectual disabilities through contributions for a more inclusive community.

Do not presently hold political office.

How do I nominate someone for this award?

To nominate someone for this award, please:

  1. Provide a short note to the selection committee explaining why you believe they should be recognized by a Distinguished Community Service Award.
  2. Provide a brief biography and history of the individual you are nominating, as well as a list of their accomplishments and contributions to the community.
  3. Include two concise testimonials from individuals or organizations that talk about the value and impact of your nominee’s contributions to the community.
  4. Consider including additional supporting materials that offer insight into the individual and their contributions such as letters of recommendation, media reports, or tributes. (Please do not send originals or official documents).

All required documentation must be submitted before the deadline for nominations. Nominators are responsible for securing supporting documentation and letters of support. Do not send originals or official documents as they will not be returned. Nominations will remain confidential between the nominator, the selection committee and the awards committee.

What do award recipients receive?

The recipient and their nominator will be invited to attend our Community Living Month Flag Raising Ceremony, held at the Municipal Building on James Street, Tuesday, May 2, 2024 at 4:30 pm. The Recipient of the Emer and Dale Distinguished Community Service Award will be presented with an award at this ceremony.
