Cindy is a true example of dedication and perseverance as she celebrates her one-year anniversary at Select Finishing as a Janitorial and Sanitation employee. Select Finishing, a family owned and operated business in Wallaceburg, Ontario provides e-coating, powder coating and plastic finishing to Class A automotive companies.

While Cindy’s official position involves maintaining the cleanliness of the production floor and its surrounding areas, she is also responsible for sanitizing high traffic areas and equipment; an integral job during the pandemic. Tracey Jardine, Office Manager at Select Finishing, describes Cindy as a dedicated and compassionate individual who always takes pride in her work. Tracey expresses how Cindy has been a key component in maintaining a healthy and safe work environment for all employees.

Now over one year at Select Finishing, Cindy expresses how much she really enjoys working with the team and how supportive her supervisors have been throughout her role.

“I feel in my element here. I really like the people and they treat me well. I feel valued here at Select,” says Cindy.

Since Cindy had previous job experience in a factory, she was matched with Select Finishing back in 2019 through the Employment Services program at Community Living Wallaceburg.

Employment Services (ES) is designed to assist people with a disability find and maintain long-term employment. The ES program, which is often used for resume building, job coaching and skills training, helps play a role in breaking down barriers in the workplace and finding individuals their niche in the work force. Retention rates are 72 percent higher amongst people who have a disability and ES advocate’s for this by matching business’s with committed and dedicated employees.

 “Employment Services is very proud to be a part of Cindy’s journey at Select Finishing,” says Wendy Smith, Employment Services Supervisor at Community Living Wallaceburg. “She is a very dedicated employee and takes great pride in her work.”

Throughout the years, Select Finishing has become a major community partner of Community Living Wallaceburg and the Employment Services program. In 2020, they received the Inclusive Employer of the Year award at the Wallaceburg Chamber of Commerce Business and Community Excellence Awards for their passion in becoming a more diverse workplace.

Tracey comments that the employees through Employment Services have allowed them to keep up with productivity during busier seasons and Cindy has been exceptional at taking initiative and exceeding her expectations.

“I am very proud of how far I have come,” said Cindy.

With the mentorship from Select Finishing and the support from ES, Cindy can continue to Dream big, Believe in herself, Overcome barriers and Achieve her goal of a long-term career that truly makes her happy.
