Throughout her time at Community Living Wallaceburg, Janessa has achieved many dreams and goals, however the most exciting has been the addition of her very first pet, Princess Angel Renee.

A sweet and playful black calico kitten with orange and white patches has stolen the hearts of Janessa and her team.

Janessa has always been a caring person, she loves to help others when she can and has a natural motherly instinct which is evident through her extensive doll collection. Over two years ago, Janessa expressed her dream of having something of her own to take care of and with the support of Community Living Wallaceburg, Janessa established a plan to help her achieve this long-term goal.

To demonstrate her ability to take care of a pet, Janessa integrated household chores and responsibilities into her everyday routine. After years of perseverance and commitment to achieving her dream, Janessa’s team knew she was ready to take the next step: adopt a kitten.

When Janessa was able to bring her new kitten home at last, she said it did not take long for Princess to warm up to her.

“I hope I have her forever.” Says Janessa, cuddling the tiny kitten in her arms.

One of Janessa’s, favourite things about Princess is that she is a “cuddle bug”, and when you comfort her she shows her love by purring back at you.

Natasha, one of Janessa’s Direct Support Professionals involved in helping Janessa achieve her goal, says that Princess is very attentive to Janessa’s needs. She always wants to be by her side especially when she is relaxing on the couch.

“I’m very proud that Janessa has come this far with her life, I’ve been with her since she came to Community Living Wallaceburg – and to see her now, and to see her with this pet, she deserves it.” Says Natasha.

Not only has Natasha seen an enormous improvement in Janessa’s mood and well-being, Community Living Wallaceburg and her team are very proud of Janessa’s ability to overcome barriers and achieve her goals.

“We’re super proud of you Janessa! Keep up the great work and make sure you spoil that fur baby!” says Rico, Supervisor of Direct Supports at Community Living Wallaceburg.

Congrats Janessa, we know Princess is in good hands and has the paw-fect best friend to experience life with.
